The town of K├ędougou is the capital of one of Senegal's most isolated regions that has recently found itself at the center of international attention for its gold reserves. Australian and Canadian corporations bargain with the national government over industrial extraction permits, while Guineans, Malians and others flock to artisanal mining sites across the region. But there are still only three ways to cross the river.
